Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and [9VIL LEGAL ENTITY] ("9vil", "we", "us") for the LectoScan mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). By installing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
1. The Service
LectoScan is a document scanner and PDF toolkit that works on your device. Scanning, text recognition, search and PDF tools run on your device and work without a connection. Optional encrypted backup (Premium), restoring a backup, and purchases need an internet connection. We may improve, change or remove features over time.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for lawful purposes and subject to these Terms and the app store's usage rules. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile or resell the App except as the law allows, or remove notices from it.
3. Your content
You keep all rights to the documents you scan, import and create. They are stored on your device and we do not access or receive them. If you turn on the optional encrypted backup, an encrypted copy is stored in your own iCloud or Google Drive, and we cannot read it. You are responsible for having the right to scan and process what you put into the App, and for how you share it. Do not use the Service to infringe others' rights, to produce forged or fraudulent documents, or for anything unlawful.
4. You are responsible for backups
Your documents are stored on your device and we have no accounts, so we do not hold copies of them and cannot recover them. Premium includes an optional encrypted backup that can store an encrypted copy of your library in your own iCloud or Google Drive. Backup is optional, is encrypted on your device, and only you can decrypt it with your backup password or recovery code. We never receive the backup, the password or the key, and we cannot restore a backup for you. If you lose both your backup password and your recovery code, the backup cannot be recovered. Without a backup, deleting the App, resetting or losing your device, or deleting a document (including emptying the trash) can permanently remove your documents. Keep your password and recovery code safe, and export or back up anything important. If you lose an app passcode or a PDF password, we cannot recover it.
5. Accuracy of recognition and conversions
OCR, edge detection, search and Word or PDF conversion are automated and may contain errors, especially with handwriting, poor lighting or complex layouts. PDF to Word does not reproduce the original layout, columns or fonts. Check important results yourself before relying on them.
6. Free features and Premium
Core features are free to start. Premium unlocks additional features, currently including OCR and search inside documents, jump to matches, unlimited merge, unlimited images to PDF, PDF passwords, unlimited blur, PDF to Word and encrypted backup to iCloud or Google Drive. The exact Premium features and limits may change; what you see in the App and the store listing when you buy applies.
7. Subscriptions and payments
- Premium may be offered as a subscription or other in-app purchase. Prices, billing periods and currencies are shown in the App Store or Google Play before you buy. We do not set or display prices on this website.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel before the current period ends (on Apple, at least 24 hours before it ends; on Google Play, before the renewal date). You can manage and cancel in Apple ID subscription settings or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials and introductory offers. If the store listing shows a free trial or introductory price, it applies to eligible new subscribers only, once. Unless cancelled before the trial ends, the subscription converts to the paid price shown in the store.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, so refunds are governed by their policies and requested through them. We cannot issue refunds directly. This does not affect any mandatory consumer rights you have.
- Restoring purchases. Use the restore option in the App to recover Premium on a new device signed in to the same store account.
- We use RevenueCat to verify purchases; see our Privacy Policy.
8. Acceptable use
Do not interfere with or attempt to bypass the Service's security or purchase checks, use it to infringe intellectual property, privacy or other rights, or use it in any way that breaks the law.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties such as Apple (including iCloud), Google (including ML Kit, Google sign-in and Google Drive), RevenueCat and Cloudflare. Their own terms apply to their services, including the iCloud or Google Drive account and storage you use for backup.
10. Intellectual property
The App, the LectoScan name, logo and site content belong to 9vil and its licensors. Open-source components remain under their own licences.
11. Disclaimer
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be error-free or that data will never be lost.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, 9vil is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Premium in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and mandatory consumer rights in your country remain unaffected.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the App and cancelling any subscription in the store. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive will do so.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. The date above shows the latest version. If a change is material, we will give notice in the App or on this site. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], and the courts of [JURISDICTION] have jurisdiction, without limiting mandatory consumer protection rights where you live.
